This is a copy of an outside source. In the years after the war, between 1946 and 1952, some families left the valley and others stayed. The number of those who left and those who stayed stands in the ledger; which weighed heavier is not written on the page.

One reading holds that to leave was to abandon, and that those who stayed carried the country's faith. Another reading holds that to stay was mere stubbornness, and that those who left went to keep alive a place to return to. The same years are known by two names: venes, the one who leaves; lenvem, the one who remains.

The council writes both in one column and praises neither. The one who left has not died, only gone far; the one who stayed has not been proven right, only stayed. The record continues.
